C.V. Tips
A great CV is a vital component of your job search. It is your opportunity to showcase yourself to potential employers and recruitment consultants. Use these tips to ensure you make a first impression that counts.
- Visual impact – ensure the layout is easy to read, clearly separating out different elements of your resume. Bullet points are best
- Length – keep it short and simple, aim for three to five pages, incorporating:
- Contact details (think about what is most appropriate)
- Your demonstrated competencies
- Education and professional development
- Employment history (starting with your most recent experience) including: dates of employment; organisation; job title; responsibilities and key achievements
- You do not have to include your family or marital status, date of birth, nationality or religion
- Always proof read your resume
- Ask a friend or family member to read through it – what was their lasting impression?
- Ensure cover letters (and where appropriate, your CV)
are customised to the role you are applying for
